Achievement for all
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Earth has had a fabulous day at Newcastle Castle. They were greeted by an Anglo-Saxon at the gates and he told them all about how they lived whilst looking at ancient artefacts. We explored an Anglo-Saxon burial and re-enacted a battle. This afternoon, we have participated in a guided tour around the keep where we were able to explore dungeons. To finish the day, we had a trial for Mrs Pyle which Earth decided to find her guilty and climbed 99 steps to the top of the keep to see the views!
On Monday, Neptune visited Gibside as part of their Geography topic. The children enjoyed learning about the history of Gibside and took part in a river study led by one of the volunteers. It was brilliant for the children to see the river up close and identify it's features. On the way down to the river, the children were on the lookout for wildlife and plants that they could identify and record. We were also lucky enough to spot some ducklings on the river!
Jupiter have had a fantastic day at Gibside taking part in an Outdoor and Adventurous Activities Festival. In the morning we took part in a carousel of activities including hunting for mini beasts, bark rubbing and two different blindfolded challenges. After lunch we took part in an orienteering challenge, we had to use a map to find and collect different materials to build a hedgehog den at the end of the journey.
As part of National Sports Week, Venus have tested their balance with some challenging yoga poses!
Venus joined the Readathon Summer Party today. We heard stories from Michael Leonard and and Manjeet Mann and loved listening to Michael Rosen performing his poem, Chocolate Cake. We also learned to draw a flying horse with illustrator Sarah McIntyre. We hope you like our drawings.
For today’s task, Earth were challenged with completing a HIIT workout. Everyone was so tired by the end and we definitely had some red faces!
This afternoon Jupiter and Venus joined together to take part in activities for Sports Week. They began by completing the daily challenge testing how many times they could move a ball around their body in 60 seconds. After that they completed some fun team races, the children enjoyed both an egg and spoon race and a relay race using a baton.
Mercury had a fun-filled afternoon enjoying a surprise, in the form of the ice-cream van! Who doesn’t enjoy an ice-cream especially in the sunshine 🍦🌞. We also had lots of happy faces when their leavers hoodies arrived🍦😀
In music, Earth have been learning how to play a variety of string instruments including the Violin, Viola and Chello.
This week in PE, Neptune have been perfecting their throwing and catching skills as part of our rounders topic. We progressed into a game of rounders that didn’t involve any batting. A very interesting lesson!
