Achievement for all
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Mars had lots of fun exploring colour outside. We used red, yellow and blue to help us make different colours. We then added black and white to see what would happen…
There has been some spooky challenges in Jupiter this week! On Monday we discovered our bakery had been transformed into a witch’s kitchen so we have written our own spooky potions. We had to toss spiders into a web and read the tricky words they landed on. Finally we used a pumpkin as inspiration to create transient art pictures.
This half term, Mercury class have been working hard with Mrs Erskine and Mr Walker to improve their athletic skills. As well as improving their short and long distance running, they have also been trying to beat their personal best in different jumps and throws too.
Over the last few weeks, Mars have had a great time building a tractor out of pallets. We explored using a range of tools to combine the pallets and added paint for a finishing touch. As you can see it is a great addition to the garden.
Saturn experimented and tested a variety of mark making and tone using a range of different pencils. We thought about the length, distance and width of the lines. Lines were also used to convey thoughts and feelings. Finally, we used our knowledge to draw parts of our woodland area.
This morning Jupiter class went for a walk around Whickham. In our Geography lessons we have been learning about the local area and where we live. We visited lots of the places that you find in a town like Whickham. Travelling Ted came with us and we took photos to remember the places we saw on our walk.
Mercury began their new history topic by becoming detectives. They were given a variety of sources - including photos, illustrations, textbooks, newspaper articles and websites - and were asked to find out who the Maya were, where they came from and why they are important to history. They’ll be finding out lots more over the rest of the term!
This afternoon Neptune have created their own cave art using charcoal and pastels. They thought very carefully about their placement and how to use the different mediums to create the desired effect.
Today the new school council of 2021 - 22 met up for the first time. We introduced ourselves to each other and discussed the purpose of what it means to be a school councillor. We also thought of rules that would help us fulfil this purpose and discussed them.
The purpose of the school council is to allow the children at Washingwell to have a voice and to help the school and community be a better place. We are all really looking forward to thinking of new ideas to improve the school and will make sure we have lots of them
ready for our next meeting!
This week in art we have been working with modelling wire. We had to make sure that we were using the template properly to manipulate the wire into the correct shapes and use masking tape to hold it into place. We all found it quite tricky at first but once we had a practice creating different wire techniques, we really got the hang of it! We are very excited to finish our models next week and see how they turn out.
