  • Art Skills

Thu 30 Sep 2021 Miss Cant

Jupiter are always creative in their learning and have been working super hard in their lessons to learn new Art skills. So far we have learnt what abstract art is and created our own pictures using circles with a partner. This week we explored using lines to create our own line picture.

  • Great graffiti!

Wed 29 Sep 2021 Mrs Erskine

Mercury class have enjoyed getting to grips with their new art topic, all about expressing themselves. They transformed their names into graffiti tags using block lettering, serifs, contrasting colours and shadow. There were some really effective results!

  • Investigating Circuits

Tue 28 Sep 2021 Mrs Mustard

This afternoon Neptune have been investigating circuits. They had to decide whether circuits were complete or incomplete based on a diagram, before building and testing.

  • Picture the poet

Tue 28 Sep 2021 Mrs McCue

In Saturn, the children drew a portrait of themselves. They drew in a continuous line, without taking their pencil from the paper and completed the exercise in five minutes.

The children then wrote a poem for their poetry portrait.

Finally, the children used tracing paper over their portraits and  copied the poem over the lines.

  • Outdoor learning

Fri 24 Sep 2021 Mrs Evered

Venus have been making the most of the good weather this week.  We have identified trees by looking closely at their leaves.  We have also created fantastic self-portraits using natural materials.  We even had time to enjoy our cakes from the Macmillan cake sale in the sunshine.

  • Cakes galore!

    Fri 24 Sep 2021

Thank you to everyone who donated and bought cakes in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. It was a huge success. We still have lots of cakes left which our Year 6 School Councillors decided should be donated to a local Foodbank - a great idea! We will drop them off on Monday.

  • Learning how to be an Egyptian

Fri 24 Sep 2021 Miss Tweedy

This week in Earth we have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. Everybody was so excited to learn about mummification and even competed in a creating your own mummy challenge! Do you think Earths mummification skills are up to the standards of Tutenkhamen?

  • Wanted: Big Bad Wolf!

Thu 23 Sep 2021 Miss Cant

On Monday Jupiter arrived to a crime scene . Some clues had been left behind so we set to work as detectives straight away. After reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood we decided it must have been the Big Bad Wolf. On Tuesday we discovered the culprit had been caught on camera, so we created some wanted posters and looked for more evidence. We have also been retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood in different ways in the classroom, using masks, story puppets and maps. Let us know if you see the wolf!

  • Cool chemical reactions

Wed 22 Sep 2021 Mrs Erskine

In Science this term, Mercury class are looking at the properties of different materials.

In our first lesson, we discussed different properties and came up with different tests we could use to test these properties on a variety of materials.

We were then given a mixture of different materials and we used their properties to come up with the best way of separating them.

Today, we looked at reversible and irreversible changes in materials and studied what happened when we mixed vinegar and milk together. We managed to make a different material, called casein, which is a type of plastic.

  • Does gas weigh anyhting?

Tue 21 Sep 2021 Mrs McCue

In science, Saturn investigated if gases have mass. A range of different fizzy drinks were weighed on digital scales and then left for the bubbles (gas) to disperse. When the drinks were weighed again the weights had changed. All the drinks weighed less. This showed that gases do have weight.
