Earth thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Centre for Life. We explored how to protect our environment, which included an amazing experience in the planetarium. Space, where we turned ourselves into astronauts. An ‘animals got talent’ science show and had a workshop focussing on nutrition and how to look after our bodies. In the afternoon, Earth got their very own lab coats and got to work to find out which foods provided the most nutrition by doing a fun experiment.
In Geography, Neptune have been finding out about different mountain ranges in Europe. We have been using atlases to locate them on a map. Some of us then carried out further research to find out additional facts.
As today is Valentine’s Day and the beginning of Random Acts of Kindness week, Jupiter have been writing messages to someone we love. We have written to our mums, dads, cousins, sisters and more! We are also looking out for acts of kindness this week in the classroom so we can celebrate making each other and ourselves feel happy.
This week as part of our Literacy lessons we have been looking at diagrams and labels. Our focus has been on Animals so using all the facts we have learnt about animals so far across our curriculum including where they live we invented our own creatures. We drew our creatures and chose features suitable for where they live and what they need to do.
To celebrate Children’s mental health week, Mercury created some colourful and unique posters using paints and good old cardboard (reuse and recycling too). The posters provided positive and uplifting messages, highlighting the importance of looking after your mental health.
Venus have really enjoyed sharing their favourite books this week and have made excellent book recommendations to their friends.
This week, we all talked about our favourite books. The books we discussed were from many different genres. We listened to mystery, fantasy, sci-fi and adventure stories. We enjoyed reading the best parts of the books out loud.
We are now writing book reviews for the reading corner of our classroom.
This week Reception have learnt all about capacity. We have explored what capacity means by filling and emptying a range of different containers to find out how much of something a container can hold. We used the correct vocabulary to describe and compare the water levels in different containers.
This week in Earth, we have been writing our own Myths. We have created our own hero’s, mythical creatures and written an amazing journey for our Hero to embark on! We have thoroughly enjoyed writing them and today for National Story Telling week decided to share them with each other!
