Fri 28 Jan 2022 Mrs McCue

This term, we have been trying different instruments in music. It has been great fun playing the cello, viola and violin.

This week, we decided which instrument we would like to continue playing.

Our music teacher told us that we are all amazing.

  • Exploring nutrition

Fri 28 Jan 2022 Miss Tweedy

This week in Science, Earth have been learning all about nutrition. We had to explore different foods and there food labels to see whether each statement was true or false. We also studied saturated and unsaturated fats and were able to order them from most to least!

  • Animal Adjectives!

Thu 27 Jan 2022 Miss Cant

This week we have been thinking all about animals! In Literacy we have been using adjectives to describe the animals in Handa’s Surprise which helped us to write our own descriptive pieces of writing. In Science we began to learn about the different animal groups and sorted which animals belonged to which group.

  • Discusting Digestion

Thu 27 Jan 2022 Mrs Mustard

In Science, Neptune have been learning about the digestion process and functions of each of the parts involved. This afternoon we created our own model of the digestive system to help us understand the process better. As you can see it got slightly messy in parts. Many of the children were disgusted!

  • Performance poetry

Wed 26 Jan 2022 Miss Bainbridge

In Literacy, Mercury have been learning all about performance poetry and have had the opportunity to perform their own to the rest of the class. The theme was friendship and we had lots of different perceptions: growing up as two best friends; someone who was lonely and craved friendship; those who were grieving and had lost a friend and a friendship that blossomed into love. Lots of creativity within Year 6!☺️👍

Fri 21 Jan 2022 Miss Tweedy

This week in Earth, we have been learning all about capacity in Maths. We were set with the challenge to find different ways to make 1L, using lots of different jugs of different capacities and water!

  • ‘The Apprentice’ style science project!

Fri 21 Jan 2022 Miss Bainbridge

This week in Science, Mercury have been finding out about the different planets in the Solar System. The children were grouped into four teams and their task was to produce a poster/ information sheet about two of the planets. They then had to present it to the tough audience, the fellow teams and of course Lord Alan Sugar (Miss Bainbridge!) Luckily, no one was fired!

  • Fun in the Woods

Fri 21 Jan 2022 Mrs McCue

This week, Saturn have enjoyed their time in the woods. We have started watching the birds who visit us. There were blackbirds, robins, sparrows and magpies.

Later in the week, we built shelters that would not fall down. Some of them were really tall.

  • Fruity Surprise!

Thu 20 Jan 2022 Miss Cant

This week in Jupiter we read our new Literacy text “Handa’s Surprise”. In the book Handa started with 7 different types of fruit in her basket but ends up with a lot of tangerines in there! How did that happen? We have been using our senses to explore the fruit from the story. We looked, felt, smelt and tasted the different fruits and recorded adjectives to describe what it was like. Then we used our adjectives to write super sentences about each one.

  • Play dough printing

Tue 18 Jan 2022 Mrs Mustard

In Art this week, the children in Neptune created their own print design using play dough. They applied ink to using sponges and experimented with creating different effects and colours. The process was trickier than some of the children imagined but they had great fun!
